Chakra Activation Workshop Series – Day 16 – Heart Chakra, Anahata
Today we will cover the specific developmental age of the Heart Chakra and how that affects us.
The Developmental Age Of The Heart Chakra
There is a lot of tenderness and vulnerability between the ages of 12 – 15 yrs old. Tending to be responsive to the world, they are passionate about causes, daringly open to experience, engaged in the pangs and intensities of first love, involved in keeping journals, and inspired to write poetry.
However this age group still needs support mixed with sufficient freedom to explore is key. With this issues of trust between parents and children can become fraught.
There is the honoring of a girl as a developing young woman by her father and the boy emerging into manhood by the mother, this presents challenges which some parents can find hard to meet.
A youngster needs to develop in to maturity with self assurance as an adult, permission and recognition must be given by the parent of the opposite sex from puberty onwards.
This is indeed hard in a single parent family situation, often an understanding aunt/uncle or grandparent can fill the gap. Failure to convey these important messages contribute to the child/woman or the Peter Pan/man syndromes, where development into true maturity is arrested.
Parents have to resign themselves during this age that they will never seem to be perfect. Even providing much empathy and loving counsel and permission can cause some children to feel that there is nothing to ‘kick against’.
There is an intrinsic need with adolescence to be rebellious, there has to be something on which to focus the energy of discontent. This stage has to be recognized as healthy. Parents should not be ashamed of their own values or of stating them, but still must make time to explain lucidly why they have the beliefs and standards they do. Having a child who is throwing out challenges brings an opportunity for greater consciousness of personal integrity and the basis on which rules and guidelines are formulated. Openess to change is also a heart quality.
At a physical level, trauma connected with this developmental age can trigger asthmatic and allergic conditions. Some asthmas and eczemas exist from birth onwards and can be caused by other-anxious mothering. The mother may have a wounded heart chakra herself, which affects the child’s early response to life.
